Wind Power

Wind power can become a valuable addition to a diverse mix of power generation within Utah. Currently Utah only has .225 MW of installed capacity, located at Camp Williams in Riverton. However, there is enough wind in Utah to provide more than 100% of the electricity Utah consumes! While wind power shouldn't be the only source of electricity in Utah, it will provide substantial benefits to our economy, including:

* reduced pollution
* hi tech jobs that can't be outsourced
* lower electricity bills

Right now, Utah is generating 94% of its electricity from perhaps the dirtiest source, coal. Utah can do better -- better for the economy, better for the quality of air and water, and better for the pocketbook.

Of course, all of these benefits for Utah apply to all 50 states, and so fighting for better wind power policy at the national level would benefit all Americans. By supporting the wind generation tax credit, funding more wind energy projects and research, and fighting for a minimum Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) nationwide, we will see renewable, clean energy grow to meet our energy needs in the future.
